My major dream come true, this car oozes of yellow sexiness. I had been browsing (uhm, read: drooling) the internet for pretty Mx-5s and Miatas, dreaming away, for about a year. Being a student, just about everybody told me I was right about dreaming, and that I should be focusing on something.. well, cheaper, if I at all could afford having a car. Besides, everyone except me began growing rather tired of hearing me squeal "Mia-ta! You HEAR?! There IS a meaning - it's fate - it's ... OoooOOO I want a Miata." (in Norwegian, that would be something in the words of 'Mia- go for it/take it'.) Just before Christmas I saw the car - yellow, shiny, bright, beautiful, well-handled, almost new, ... I fell completely in love, and after dragging my father in front of the computer shouting over my lungs LOOKITDADDYLOOKIIIT! even he was curious about it, there was no doubt there was something special about this one. To make it brief: I looked at a couple of Porsches beforehand, just to compare what I could get for the money, and left New Year's Eve 06 for Stavanger to take a closer look. The moment Arvid, the former owner, opened the garage and I got the first glimpse of the car... I was completely in love. Trying to keep a straight face was rather difficult, but I think I managed, since everyone looked sort of taken aback when I matter-of-factly one hour later said "Well, shall we sign the papers, then?"
I grinned and giggled all the time I had to wait for my plane to come at Sola, and didn't stop back home, either. The people and personnel at the airport and on the plane kept staring at me with worried faces, and I kept smiling broadly back at them. I was still sore in my "smilingmuscles" a week after. *giggle*
Speed Yellow, Sunburst Yellow, Sunracer
Being a Mazda Mx-5, it's known for its award-winning qualities: agility, grip of the road, sound, great weightbalance, character... and of course, charisma. But my roadster is more than just a yellow MX-5, though. It's a special edition, and actually there are less than 1000 of this type ever made... My shiny-shiny is amazingly new-looking, and was born in Hiroshima. After having been briefly in Italy and then Germany, it came to Stavanger here in Norway, where it was well-kept and looked after by its former owner. Then I came along, and after passing my driver's final exam I headed west again for bringing it home in triumph - what a trip. :)
More than just a pretty face
The Mx-5 is used on the racetrack. It has better roadgrip than many cars that cost a great deal of zeros more, and even if it can't beat the really fast ones on straight lines with full throttle, the little roadster still fights a good battle.
"With an approximate 50:50 front/rear weight balance, the car has very neutral handling, which makes it easy to drive for the beginner, and fun for the advanced driver. Inducing oversteer is easy and very controllable, thus making the MX-5 a popular choice for amateur and stock racing, including, in the USA, the Sports Car Club of America's Solo2 autocross and Spec Miata race series. Beginning with the third generation, Mazda consolidated worldwide marketing using the MX-5 name, though enthusiasts in the USA still refer to it as Miata, a name that means "reward" in Old High German. The MX-5 has won over 150 awards in its history,[3] including making Car and Driver magazine's annual Ten Best list seven times; Wheels Magazine 's Car of the Year for 1989 and 2005; Sports Car International's "best sports car of the 1990s" and "ten best sports cars of all time"; 2005-2006 Car of the Year Japan; and 2005 Australian Car of the Year." A celebrity
"In video games, MX-5s are featured in a number of titles including the Need For Speed Underground series, the Project Gotham Racing series, the Gran Turismo series, Juiced and Forza Motorsport.
On TV, a black second generation Miata was occasionally driven on 7th Heaven first by Jessica Beil and then by David Gallagher. Black 1991 and 1999 Miatas were also driven on Charmed by Shannen Doherty. The american sitcom Newsradio had the owner of the radio station give MX-5s to his employees. Band Blink 182 had a red MX-5 dropped from a crane in the music video for their song "Rock Show". The two main characters in the music video "Windowlicker" by Aphex Twin are cruising in a green NA Miata. Also, a pair of episodes of the sitcom Saved by the Bell, titled "Wicked Stepbrother" parts 1 and 2, revolved around one of the characters getting a Miata. In books, Lawrence Sanders's McNally series has the main character mentioning his 1990 red Miata a few times in each of the stories.
In 2006, the third-generation MX-5 was featured on the popular BBC program Top Gear in a race against a champion greyhound (which was actually worth significantly more than the car). The greyhound ended up winning the race by a large margin, partly due to the lack of grip provided by the muddy track." (Wikipedia)
Extras
My little thing has quite a few extra features, and I'll make sure to list them soon!
Daily basis
Yup, I do drive my Sunracer everyday, and in addition I'm attending shows and exebitions. In a couple of weeks I'll be on the track again with it, racing with the big Ferraris and Lambos - I can't wait.
